Clare South
While North Clare has the Burren, the south has the coastal route from Ennis out through Kilrush, Kilkee to Loop Head and some dramatic cliffs.
Ennis Loop
After exploring the county town of Ennis, discover south Clare by following the Ennis Loop. Head south along the Shannon Estuary, then onto Kilrush and Kilkee. From there follow the R487 out to Loophead or stay on the N67 as it swings north to Doonbeg and Spanish Point. At Milltown Malbay the R474 takes you back to Ennis.

The town of Ennis is only 12km from Shannon airport and is a good place to spend a few overnights if flying in and out of Shannon. Alternatively, like most of the west coast it is easily accessible from Dublin.
Kilrush Kilkee
Explore around the west Clare towns of Kilrush, Kilkee, the village of Doonbeg. The feery from Tarbert to Kilimer is a quick way of getting there from Kerry.

Kilrush is on the River Shannon Estuary, close to where it joins the Atlantic. The town has a thriving tourist industry. When visiting make sure to visit the Dolphins in the estuary.

Kilkee is a holiday seaside town, whith good golfing facilities and with a number of sea wrecks caters well for the diver.

Killimer

The ferry from Killimer links South Clare and North Kerry. The ferry takes about 30 minutes and knocks quite sometime off the road journey to/from Kerry.

Doonbeg

Doonbeg is a village on the Atlantic Coast just north of Kilkee. It has a championship golf course nearby.
Loop Head Peninsula
The Loop Head peninsula with it's high cliffs, lighthouse and scenic countryside is well worth a visit. Enjoy the views at Carrigaholt on the south coast and the small hidden bay near Ross on the North coast.

The northside of the Loop Head peninsuala falls away into the Atlantic in a dramatic fashion. The cliffs are hundreds of metres high with an almost vertical drop into the Atlantic below..

Just off the road on the north of Loop Head Peninsula, the cliffs open out to form a small and almost enlosed bay.

Carrigaholt is a small fishing village on the Shannon Estuary. From there you can pick up a boat to tour the estuary and watch the dolhpins.
