The Burren Blackhead
From Ballyvaughan take the R477 along Galway Bay and Blackhead will shortly appear on the left side of the road. The head is a mass of limestone almost pushing out into the bay. The views, especially in the evening, across Galway Bay and the western sky are spectacular on clear days.
Blackhead Overview
Follow the R477 road northwest from Ballyvaughan and Blackhead lies ahead. At the farthest point north the road swings south bounding this limestone karst region.
A 30 second short.

Blackhead
There is a green path ( walking trail ) along the side of Blackhead which allows for terrific views over Galway Bay. The limestone landscape at the northern tip of the head gives a great impression of the Burren Karst landscape.
