Porto Antico
The Harbour
This lovely part of Genoa is the old harbour now functioning as a residential area.
Obvious with its current name, it is an antique port. It was revived back in the 1990s. This area houses many amazing sights from museums to interesting structures. Do not forget to stop by L’Aquarium, The Biosphere, Porta Siberia, and many others.
You will have a great view of Bigo from here. It offers a wonderful view of the bay and the rest of Genoa. Porto Antico is an enormous square and one of the most treasured ones in the region.
Because of this, many events are actually held here yearly, from cultural to sports events.
New Port
The Harbour
The new port of Genoa is a spectacle in itself.
The way light strikes its calm water provides a great ambiance in the evening. It is a very active seaport in Italy and is actually a major one in the Mediterranean Sea. In fact, it is considered as the busiest when it comes to trade.
It is a rather enormous port covering around 700 hectares of land and 500 hectares of water. It shelters a number of cargos and some amazing structures as well. Visit the lighthouses found here, namely, Lanterna and the little one in Punta Vagno.
The area also shelters several marinas, one of which is the Exhibition centre where the Genoa International Boat Show is held. These are just some of the interesting things that you can expect to find in the New Port.
Bigo
The Harbour
This is one of the most unique and interesting structures in Genoa.
It is a kind of lift which is capable of rotating 360 degrees. It was the work of architect Renzo Piano the same person who worked behind the renovation of the old port. It is a very worthy ride. From up there, you can view the complete beauty of Genoa.
It is also equipped with an audio system which will tell you about the history of the different structures that you can see. The ride comes with a cheap price; it only ranges from 3-4 euros.
This is definitely a must see when you are around Genoa.
