Lagos in the western Algarve makes an interesting place to use as a base for a sea holiday. The town on one side over looks the sea and sandy beaches and on another side looks over a river and marina. The old town has plenty of quality restaurants. Close to the town there are numerous sea stacks and caves.

Just below the ligthouse at Ponta da Piedade close to Lagos there is a series of caves. You can take a boat trip form the Lagos Marina or pick up a local boat below the cliffs at the lighthouse.

The rock formations at Praia da Ana are quite spectaular. Like many of the beaches, the rocky coves protected by high cliffs form an idyllic locaton for a relaxing day on the beach.

The Marina de Lagos has 460 berths and has become an important centre for long-distance cruisers, and it is also known for its modern drawbridge.

The River runs along the town. A river taxi provides a ferry service to a local beach. The river is also crossed by a canitlever bridge.
