Capetown
After Johannesburg, Capetown is the next most populous area. The city and surrounds lie on the Atlantic Coast line. The city lies on the shores of Table Bay and is back dropped by the stunning views of Table Mountain. The Victoria and Alfred Waterfront, Table Mountain, the City Gardens and Coastal resorts are the most popular city tourist areas.

Table Mountain
Table Mountain is a prominent landmark visible throughout most of Capetown. The top of the mountain is flat and visitors can walk many of the trails and see the city and coastline far below. A cable car takes visitors up and down the mountain, though the fit and able can walk up the zig-zag paths to the top.

The Coast
The Atlantic Ocean washes around Capetown, its waters are cold as the currents move cold water from Antartica up towards the equator. Nevertheless, the coastline plays a major part in the lives of locals and tourists. Close to the city VA Waterfront there is a promenade that hugs the coast for many miles. Further out is the seaside town of Camps Bay. For some of the best views of the city and Table Mountain take a cruise or boat out on Table Bay.

Robben Island
Robben Island is a flat island lying about 7km off the Capetown Coast. The Nobel Laureate and former President of South Africa Nelson Mandela was imprisoned there for 18 of the 27 years he served behind bars before the fall of apartheid. Two other inmates, Kgalema Motlanthe and President Jacob Zuma have also become President. Former inmates provide guided tours of the prison and its cells.
