Kata Beach
Phuket
Kata Beach with its fine white sand lies just south of Karon Beach and is popular with families. The area close to the beach has a number of hotels and restaurants. While November to April is the time for sun worshiping the rainy season attracts surfers as the waves crash towards the beach.
Phromthep Cape
Phuket
The Phromthep Cape lies to the south west of the island. As it juts out into the sea it provides a great viewing spot for watching the sun sink from the clear evening skies into the sea below.
At evening time the Cape is well visited by tour buses and can be a bit crowded at peak times. Along the headland there is a lighthouse which has been turned into a small marine museum.
There is a good view of both sides off the island from the top of the lighthouse tower and a special bonus on a hot day is the ever so cool air conditioning.
Phi Phi Island
Phi Phii Islands
The Ferries from Krabi and Phuket moor at the village port.
Scheduled Ferry are the cheapest and most popular method to get to Phi Phi Island.
Ferry crossings take about 2 hours from Phuket and roughly 90 minutes from Krabi depending on conditions and run every day all year round.
Most of the year the trip is fairly smooth although conditions can get a little more choppy during the months of September and October.
If departing Phi Phi to an airport, allow yourself at least an hour to get to the airport from Phuket Port and 40 minutes from Krabi Port to the Krabi Airport.
Loh Dalam Bay Phi Phi
Phi Phii Islands
The beach on this side of the island is popular with sun worshippers and beach partyers.
The day on Loh Dalam Bay can- be divided into 4 – morning – early afternoon – very quiet as most backpackers are resting.
The afternoon is sun tanning time
As this bay faces west/north west the evening time can be spent watching the sun fade in a rosé sky.
After dark the bay comes alive to the sound of music – as night after night it reverberates to the sounds of beach parties till early dawn.
Morning then comes and the cycle starts over.
James Bond Island
Phang Nga Bay
The James Bond island is not really an island but an islet or massive rock - Ko Tapu - jutting out of the aquamarine sea just off the island pair of Khao Phing Kan. The islet rises more than 40 metres. The island and general area is known as James Bond Islands after being featured in the film the Man with the Golden Gun.
