Phang Nga Bay
Phang Nga Bay is area of conservation - most of which is incorporated into the Phang Nga National Park. The area is particularly scenic with many limestone cliffs, sea stacks, caves and arches, which makes a visit worthwhile. The iconic James Bond Island is regularly visited by tour boats.

The James Bond island is not really an island but an islet or massive rock - Ko Tapu - jutting out of the aquamarine sea just off the island pair of Khao Phing Kan. The islet rises more than 40 metres. The island and general area is known as James Bond Islands after being featured in the film the Man with the Golden Gun.

The islands of Khao Phing Kan - are pair of islands or rocky hills connected by a strip of sand lying beside James Bond Island. The islands are a popular stop off point on tours of the James Bond islet. The short sandy strip has some toilet facilities and refreshments and souvenir stalls. The most westerly of the islands is indented by a wide cave - which can offer some shelter from the baking sun.

The National Park of Phang Nga Bay is specatular - with limestone cliffs which appear to dramattically plunge into the aquamarine sea - and sea stacks which rise dramatically from the waters.

Phang Nga Bay lies between the northerly end of Phuket and the mainland of southern Thailand. A large are of the bay forms the Ao Phang Nga National Park. The bay with its numerous limestone ciffs, caves, sea stacks and rocky outcrops is a popular tourist destination.

Phang Nga Bay can be visited by speed boat from Krabi and Phuket and by long boat from the Phang Nga pier. Tour operators transport visitors from their hotels in Krabi and Phuket by road to the ferry pier.

Long Tail boats - with their engine suspened on a swivel at the back of the boat constantly ferry visitors from the Phang Nga Pier to James Bond Island and Phnag Nga Bay. A tour generally satrts with an 8:30 am pick up from the hotels with a return around 4:30 pm.

Apart from visiting the James Bond Islet there is lots to see as the long tail boats make a circular route from Phang Nga Pier. Most tours stop at the fishing village, spend some time canoeing and visit the Great Budha on the mainland.
Ko Panyi Village

The fishing village of Ko Panyi with a population of over 300 is built on stills in Phang Nga Bay. The village is a usual stop over - often for lunch on many of the bay tours. The village community cater for the visitors and have built large open air restaurants. The food can be excellent - with plenty of fresh fish and shrimp. The view from the school in the village is quite spectactular.
Canoeing
Places to Visit.
A good way to spend some time is canoeing through the mangrove swamps, caves and sea arches of the limestone features. A Canoe trip is usually part of the James Bond experience.
Big Buddha
Places to Visit.
Close to Phang Nga village there is a large lying Buddha in a vast limestone cave. The cave is home to monkeys - so at times many can be seen climbing the cliffs and the nearby trees.

Places to Visit.
Close to the village of Phang Nga lies the small pier from which tour boats set out to visit James Bond Island. The town of Phang Nga has some accommodation for those wishing to stay close to the pier to catch an early morning tour.
